On Saturday, December 17th, FCA Golf JAX held an FCA Golf JAX Combine at Deerwood Country Club. This was the first Combine FCA Golf JAX has held within a private, gated country club community. FCA Golf JAX was incredibly grateful for the opportunity! Deerwood Country Club’s Head Golf Professional, Master PGA Professional, and North Florida Section Northern Chapter PGA President, Jim Lohbauer, began the Combine with a 30 minute TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) Clinic. In addition to explaining the important role the body plays in relation to the golf swing, Lohbauer walked participants through a variety of drills and challenges that highlighted the connection existing between their body and swing. Participants also had the chance to ask specific questions about Jim’s professional career and playing aspirations.
Combine participants then competed their way through a series of Combine stations: putting, short-game, and full swing. During an FCA Golf JAX Combine, participants receive points based upon the result of each shot completed. Points are recorded on Combine scorecards and used not only to determine Combine winners, but also to help participants assess strengths and weaknesses within their individual golf game. This baseline understanding helps participants focus their practice in the areas where improvement is needed most. This simple, yet effective and efficient form of practice and competition taught in an FCA Golf JAX Combine is a model of practice that participants can take along with them and repeat as they practice on their own. “FCA JAX Combines help develop a sound approach towards game improvement for junior golfers. The coach-to-student ratio is such that each junior golfer receives a lot of individual attention and positive coaching. Once Combine stations are complete, the necessary time is taken to highlight each golfers accomplishments while also helping each junior understand their weaknesses and the role faith can play their golf game and life.” – Jim Lohbauer
Combine honors were taken home by three participants. These winners include (as pictured below, left-to-right): Ashton Monk (13 & Over Winner), Matthew French (Overall Winner) and Seth Paulus (12 & Under Winner). Congratulations to each of our winners!
